Risk Reduction Measures

Those measures taken to reduce the risks to the operation of process facilities and to the health and safety of personnel associated with it or in its vicinity by:

— reduction in the probability of failure

— mitigation of the consequences of failure.

Guidance note: The usual order of preference of risk reduction measures is:

  1. Inherent Safety.
  2. Prevention.
  3. Detection.
  4. Control.
  5. Mitigation.
  6. Emergency Response.
